| i was on
my way home from work, went through an intersection, looked at my gauges, looked
up and there was a mini van stopped in front of me. hit my brakes, my
bike skid and fell and threw me to left. i hit my shoulder and helmet.
the bike got lodged almost halfway under the car. i slid to the left of
the car, stood up and was for the most part, fine.I broke my collar bone,
but other then that im fine...a bruise or two..but no big cuts or scrapes.the
bike is probably totalled, but i have no plans to get back on.
Haha, that was typed with one hand two days after I crashed. I was tired
of trying to type out what happened to people I talked to online. Anyway,
here's a more descriptive story of what happened:
I had just left work (at Paramount's Great America) around 5 or 6oclock.
It was Wednesday, I remember that because that Saturday I was supposed
to drive to Las Vegas with TJ and Jill and spend the weekend there since
I had never been to Vegas.
Well, I left our employee parking lot and got stopped at the first
stop light. It changed and I turned and continued on my way. The street
I was now curved to the right for about a quarter mile. As I passed the
next intersection there was a car that pulled out really fast -he didn't
turn into my lane, though I thought he might. Well, I was riding the right
hand side of the far right lane. I moved the left hand side of that same
lane -to give the other a little space. As I did this I looked down at
my gauges for a moment and when I looked up there a minivan stopped in
front of me; the intersection up ahead and backed up quite a bit.
I hit my brakes but the front caught faster then the back, kicking
the bike up onto the front tire and shortly after tipping over (I was
riding a curve at the time) and throwing me off. I hit my hand and tore
my glove open, then slid the rest of the way on my shoulder. My bike slid
underneath the bumper of the minivan leaving only a large scratch. I got
up and took off my helmet and gloves. The force of the slide pulled my
jacket zipper down halfway. Luckily for me I always wore a heavy riding
jacket, gloves, helmet (of course), and steel toe boots when I rode. The
impact of hitting my hand on the ground broke my collar bone though, other
then that I was fine.
My bike was totalled out, and as far I know the other driver just
needed a new bumper (maybe only a paint job for the bumper). I spent about
five weeks with my arm in a sling since they can cast a collarbone. I
haven't rode since because I promised myself I wouldn't ride after I broke
something. It does kind of suck since riding was a lot of fun.
Pictures
as you can tell, it slid on the left side
rear fairing was barely scuffed

the whole front was smashed from hitting the van
the right fairing is sitting about six lower then it
should be. the right mirror is gone
the radiator was smashed
right headlight is gone.

haha, those are supposed to be straight. entire gauge
assembly was crushed.
