Peace Out, America!

This trip… requires one additional thing to carry…

I’m leaving the States! In about five hours or so I’ll be boarding Air China and headed to the East! I’ll be spending the next two weeks traveling around South Korea with my friend Colleen – whom I haven’t seen face to face since our days in college in Michigan.
And how cool is a little reunion in a completely different country, huh?

I’m bringing pretty minimal amounts of everything – including my camera gear. I’ll be headed there with only my Mark III, wide and normal L lenses, and one 580EXII. I’ll also have my laptop – so keep your fingers crossed that I’ll be about to post a mid-trip update!

I’ve been pretty busy the last couple weeks editing and booking more shoots for when I return to the US at the end of the month. My apologies for the lack of any serious update in the last two weeks, but, as I’ve said before, my contract work keeps me from releasing images until this project goes to press.

I’m potentially going to be updating my Twitter feed while traveling, but that’s still uncertain. Either way, keep yours eyes here on my blog for updates on my travels!

Have a great November everyone! I’ll be gone most of it ;-)

Derek Jameson’s feature in Unzipped Magazine

The July issue of Unzipped magazine features a story about singer/songwriter Derek Jameson.

For those of you who watch my blog, you’ll already know that this is a photo spread that I shot with Derek a few months back.
Derek and I have been great friends the last 10 years – wow, that went fast. And when he was approached to be featured in Unzipped, Derek came to me to do the photography. I was extremely flattered that Derek wanted me to do the shoot for him – he pointed out that he was more comfortable working with me than some random photographer. Either way, I was excited to help.

For those who aren’t familiar, Unzipped is gay men’s magazine. So if you don’t know that and go to pick up a copy, you may be in for a surprise. Just as much as people were surprised when I said I had some of my work featured on AVN’s website a month or so ago (AVN is Adult Video News, haha – see past blogs).

The spread features four different shots from our shoot that afternoon. The above one is also included, is my favorite, and will also be added to my online portfolio shortly.

I’m incredibly proud of this feature, and of Derek’s accomplishments. While our lives are very different, our core value sets are very similar – which is probably why we’ve remained friends over the years.

Please, if you’re interested, check out the feature in Unzipped.
You can also listen to some of his music and purchase his cds on iTunes and MySpace – I shot his most recent cd art, too.

Also…

I have a number of other images featured in various ads. Probably in over a dozen magazines or so… I’ll have to start putting together a list. But here’s an example of a full page ad from this month’s D-Sport magazine.

The image features Tanner Foust at the podium after his second place win at the Long Beach Formula Drift, and also his Rockstar Energy Scion TC. Both images are from my work at the LBFD back in April. You can see some of those images in the Racing section of my portfolio.

This ad, and other like it are in various magazines including Import Tuner, D-Sport, Modified, Truckin’, Super Street, etc… they feature my work from the Long Beach Gran Prix, Long Beach Formula Drift, Lucas Oil Off Road Race Series, Quadcross, Motocross, Superbike, etc…

I’ll get a better list together and update you all soon.

Good night everyone!

Laura Shields and Jesse Hart

I had the pleasure of working with the very beautiful Laura Shields in Beverly Hills, on Memorial Day.
Along with my good friend, singer Jesse Hart, we set out to create some James Dean/Natalie Woods inspired photos.
I’ll be completely honest and say I’m not quite sure how close we got – but I’m also nowhere near done editing the images yet. This is one of the images that caught my eye last night as I quickly sorted through the photos. They will all need to some more work to make them look aged and weathered. But I feel I’m off to a good start.

I’ve been behind in updating my portfolio with recent work. For that I apologize to all of you who follow my work regularly.
I’ll be playing a lot of catch up this week editing images of Marsha, and continuing to edit this shoot of Laura and Jesse. I also shot a fashion show for Studio C Salon that I need to edit. Not to mention the bit of motocross I photographed Thursday before my holiday-weekend cruise to Mexico (no, we didn’t stop. No swine-flu here).

Check back shortly.
I’m expecting to run some major updates this Sunday.

Also, starting in June, and going through July (and the rest of the year), keep an eye out for my work in various magazines including Rebel Ink, Unzipped, Import Tuner, Super Street, Cycle News, D Sport, Sport Truck, etc…

I told you I’ve been busy…

Automotive madness…

This is just going to be a quick update… and slight teaser of things to come.
My weekend is, has been, and will continue to be, filled with all sorts of cars.

Today I had the pleasure of shooting some of Anthony’s car collection over at Promax Motor Sports in Alhambra, CA. The shoot will be continued throughout the weekend, and then depending on things go… over the weeks to come.

Promax’s Smart Car… this thing is awesome, I want one now…

Also…

On Friday I attended the Garden Grove Classic Car show they have every Friday evening. Tons of beautifully restored classic cars. Everything from Model T’s to American Muscle. Very nice owners, beautiful machines, and an incredibly friendly atmosphere.

I attended meet to check out the cars, of course. But also to find the perfect car for an upcoming shoot I’ll be doing. I had the pleasure of meeting Richard and Sarah C., owners of a Red ’34 Chevy. Now, I don’t have any photos of the car right now, ironically… However, Richard and Sarah have been kind enough to colaborate with myself and a model for an upcoming pinup shoot.

Meet Kassandra. This shoot is going to be great…

So, I’m gonna keep this somewhat short… Check back tomorrow for futher updates… and watch for some major new additions to my portfolio.
Busy night ahead… with a lot more editing to do too…

Southern California’s on fire… again

Socal is burning again…

This is part of the Yorba Linda fire in Orange County. Unfortunately as a freelance photojournalist I’m not allowed much closer than this…
The air quality has quickly gone downhill here all day. Below are some photos from this afternoon… you couldn’t see the sky… Hell, you could barely see the sun.

Yes, the sky was really this color… it was gross…

You could barely see the sun too… I couldn’t even focus very well, ha!
