My Hollywood showcase, with RAW Artists

Last night was my showcase in Hollywood, at Playhouse with RAW Artists. As many of you know, I was contacted by RAW Artists a little over a month ago. They had come across my photography and were interested in having me showcase with them. Well, that event was last night and the support I received from everyone was overwhelming.

I was really touched by how many people came out to support me and my work – and even the goofy shot of five of my subjects and myself above is awesome!

So often I tend to look at my work as just photos.
Don’t get me wrong, I believe in my work and stand my imagery. I’m confident in my abilities, but I still will look at my images as something that my subjects allow me to very easily create with them.

What I’m trying to say, is that often I forget that the portraits I’ve created of people mean more to those individuals than I realize.  And nearly every person from my collection in last nights showcase proved that by showing up excited to see their photo on the wall, give me a hug, congratulate me on my work, and thank me for allowing them to be a part of it.

I’m surprised I didn’t get more emotional, but as I go through these photos and see what a great time everyone had talking and meeting one another, it compounds the amount of love there really was last night. Again, Thank You!

A couple things that stand out, before I get to a huge assortment of photos…
My cousin drove up from San Diego to be there even though he had to work at 4a the next day, thank you Gianni!
My Mom and step-dad flew down last minute from the Bay Area.
Adam, who turned into my poster-boy for this whole event, came out on his 25th birthday to be there.
Lauren, my best girl friend here in LA, celebrated her birthday last night with me at the show AND took tons of photos for me because she knew I wouldn’t have time.

Everyone else that attended, texted, called, emailed, posted on facebook, etc. Thank you all for the support!

Please check out the rest of the images after the break, I’ll have a lot more to say about the event and people that attended.

Michael and Ava

Haven’t posted an update in nearly a week. Part of the reason is I’ve been swamped with work and various projects.
I’m going to be in a commercial at some point – that was filmed last week. Nothing amazingly huge, and actually I had to play the arrogant sports car driver… hahaha.

Most of the week was spent catchin up on past projects for various people that requested additional photos. The shot above was shot when I went out with my friend Michael (Video Jockey) and Ava Johnson (singer/song writer) in Hollywood. This was on Melrose when we were just wandering around having fun takin a few photos.

I also edited some additional shots from Jesse and Laura’s shoot after Jesse requested a few more be touched up.

I think one came out rather nice, actually. I was able to really make the lighting and skin tones pop out against the grass.

This is another shot from the newly edited images of Laura and Jesse.

I actually am happier with these two than my previous images. I’ll be re-updating my portfolio with these and removing some of the others. I feel this are much nicer images and really set a mood and feeling between the subjects than the previous shots.

Also, it appears that I have images in QUAD, Sport Truck, and Parts Mag this month too… I need to double check those. And the feature on Rick Thorne in Rebel Ink isn’t in this months issue – I checked; I will need to follow up with Rick and find out when it goes to print.

Have a great week everyone!

Geisha House with Jesse Hart, Street Fighter release at MOCA

Rocked it out at the Geisha House in Hollywood a few nights back with Lucky 7 Lifestyle and Jesse Hart & The Fam.

It ended up being a really great night, even though I was running late due to prior obligations I couldn’t get out of, haha. Ironically I ended up running into (VJ) Michael Benz and (Make Up Artist) Lauren Favorule who I’ve done a lot of work with. Also there was Brand, a model I’ve had the pleasure of working with multiple occasions (like this one).

Met a number of entertainers and models I look forward to working with, and overall, just had a great time.
I arrived late, like I said, so I didn’t really take many photos… mostly just having fun with friends rather than treating it like an event I needed to cover. Irregardless, here are the photos – or click the image above.

Also, last night I headed to Los Angeles again with the Topdown guys to MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) for the Street Fighter 20th Anniversary party and game launch. For those of you who don’t know, Street Fighter IV is about to be released… you hear that? That’s your inner child screaming for joy!

Haha, it took forever to get in… line was huge. I was really tempted to just show my camera, say “Press” and walk through the door. But, that would involve ditching my friends. Once inside we had a really good time. Tons of free gift bags, posters, hats, and other commemorative stuff for people to pick up.
I didn’t even think to check how many stations they had set up to play the new, not yet released, game… but it had to be somewhere around 50. They also had some of the really old arcade systems there with the original Street Fighter series.
A contest was held to see who the best player was… I didn’t bother entering, nor would I have wanted to bother waiting in the line to compete.
There was also live music, tons of prize giveaways. Free laser phone-engraving of any Street Fighter logo or character (I was tempted to have Guile etched on the battery plate to my Blackberry Storm, not going to lie), and food and drinks.

Brought my camera, shot around with friends, nothing amazing, but posted a gallery up anyway.

In other news..

My shoot with Kassandra has been pushed out due to weather, boo! :(
But, will hopefully be happening in the next week or so.

I’m also going to be working with Jesse Hart this upcoming week for a shoot in Hollywood/Beverly Hills.

And, lastly, I’ll be in the Bay Area to visit Friday the 20th through Sunday the 22nd.
Hit me up.

Coming up this weekend…

I’m the main photographer for another fashion show this weekend!

The Classy and Sassy show at Libertine will feature the work of Michael Benz, with hair and makeup by Tiara and our girls at MUAH. I’m excited, should be another night of meeting new people, finding potential clients, and otherwise just enjoying Hollywood with cool people.

And the above poster features another shot of mine, of course…. and then even used one from my site rather than requested a full res, touched up, image.

Keep it real homies.
I’ll have more stuff to show you guys soon.

A little more Green Door..

Tonight I caught up on a bit of photo work I’ve been slowly finishing the last few days. I had wanted to head up to Hollywood for a fashion show at One… but, this was probably a bit more important. In addition to processing some images from Les Deux, I also processed a number of headshot style photos I did my friends on the MUAH make up team.
The above shot of Jessica is one of those images. And again, being one for simplicity in my work… the above was shot with simply one 580EXII… not out of choice, but out of necessity while working in a very small, very packed, dressing room.

This image features pieces from both the Blive Couture collection and SubRage collection as each model is representing a different designer. I was just being creative and seeing what I could do with lighting and my large collection of gels I brought with me. Tiara and D’vil were more than happy to pose for me as I experimented.
I ended up with great shots like this one.

Blive and Green Door gallery uploaded!

The First Annual Blive Couture Fashion Show at Green Door, Hollywood, gallery has been uploaded!
Please click the image above, or click here.

This is a selection of photos from the entire evening. I also did a number of fashion photography shots – those will not be in this gallery. Once those are touched up I will be making further updates to both my blog and portfolio with those images. This gallery is purely for everything else from that evening.

To the MUA’s, hairstylists , and models… I will get you toned images of you/your work within the next few days.
To the promoters, designers, and event coordinators, I will be getting you touched up images soon too!

To everyone I worked with last night, I had a great time. So much fun, and it was a pleasure to meet and and work with all of you.

Now, I’m off to finish prepping my gear for tonight. I’m cover the SCU/CSU Fullerton Basketball game. I love shooting sports, and am really excited for this coverage.

Blive and SubRage shake up Green Door

Last night Blive Couture and SubRage rocked Green Door for their first annual fashion show. I was their as the main photographer for the event covering both product lines, a dozen models, celebrity guests, and one massive party.

I had a great time, and after getting home at 4am… I’m just starting to work on photos now.
Check back later for a gallery of some of the images!

Les Deux Fashion shoot

Last night I did a fashion shoot in Hollywood at Les Deux.
I actually had four models to work with, clothing and fashion accessories were by Michael Benz, as well makeup by Lauren Favorule, and hair by Tiara Lewis. A big thank you to Johnny at Les Deux for opening up this venue to us for this shoot.

Below is a selection of some of my favorites from this series. I’ll have to add more tomorrow, I’ll also be updating my fashion portfolio with various images too.

I really dig the lighting here..

One of my better focus-on-the-gear shots. I’m used to shooting people, and not the clothing, haha.

This just seemed pretty epic to me. I love Brand’s attitude in this image.

And why not end on something sexy, right?

Check back later for more updates.

//new photos, added Friday. Enjoy
