Journal 4 Friday: Greenwich . We started out the day all meeting at the Waterloo Tube station. Justin and I had gotten up early and left our place to make sure we wouldn't be late; we ended up arriving at the Tube Station almost an hour early. We walked across the bridge and took some pictures of the Eye and Westminster . Walked past a few shops and saw some stuff, one was a bike shop that sold the folding bikes I'd seen people carry onto the tube. The bikes cost £395, so basically a $750 bike, what a rip off. We ran into one of Justin's teachers at Starbucks. And also stopped to buy fruit from a fruit stand, the 50pence Chinese pear I had was damn good. After everyone else arrived and we stood around some more, this time down near the water where it was colder though. Sara wanted to go through my Ipod, so she “could judge me by my music” she said. Apparently I passed We all finally got on the boat on took the 30 minute, if not longer, ride to Greenwich . The boat driver pointed out everything we passed along the way. He had a little tip box that he held as people exited, I feel bad that no one gave him anything. Then again it was a boatfull of mostly college students who can barely afford this trip. Our tour guide said that he actually gave a number of facts that were incorrect, during the trip. Once we got to Greenwich we went inside another Cathedral (the British love them some God). They took us to the “Queen's House” and the University of Greenwich . We were then told where to meet after we broke for lunch. Matt and I, among others, went to a Thai food restaurant. It felt like being at home to around a bunch of Asian people speaking their native language. Vivek, Sophia, Leah, ______ were at the table to our left. And behind us were Kelly, Laura, Aaron, and Katie. They actually had a really bad experience at lunch. Matt and I thought they were just being bitchy about what they ordered, until we got outside and heard what happened. Apparently they had all ordered water, and where brought Sprite or Sparkling Water of some kind. They didn't notice until they sipped it though. When they called the waitress over and told her those were not the drinks they ordered they said “oh, well you already drank, so now you have to pay”. They refused to pay for the restaurants mistake; after that they the restaurant asked them to repeat what they ordered. When everyone went to reorder they skipped over Katie and called her “stupid”. After everyone ate we went up to the observatory where we were able to see the 0' Longitude line. We all took pictures of ourselves standing in both hemispheres. A whole bunch of people today complimented me on my website. Apparently I left my email-signature on one of the posts I left on our class message board. So a bunch of people have seen my website now, hahaha. We left to go home, taking the boat back and getting another “tour guide style” driver. Everyone parted ways the Tube station. A bunch of people were going home to change and then meeting up about an hour or so later. But it takes me an hour just to get home so I went site seeing instead. I'm still trying to find where my Mom tagged the bridge near Big Ben. I found the park where she tagged a bench, turns out that it's in Leister Square where I've gone at least 3 of the last 4 nights with my friends here. Though people were sitting on half the benches there so I couldn't check all of them either. I bought a slice of pizza for dinner for a pound. The front 1/3 or so ripped off when he pulled it out, so instead of giving me a new piece he waited til I paid and then handed me the ripped piece of pizza (which I noticed after I paid), cheap shop owner. I walked around a while and looked at different shops, and then finally caught the tube home. After I got home I was going to get my bag and go hit up Safeway and pick up some snack and drinks. I ended up passing out on the couch around 7: 00ish . Woke up an hour or so later when Grahm got home; I took my boots off and laid down on my bed. I slept like that until 1am when I got up again and changed. Justin got home a little later and told me how he fell asleep on the Tube again, though this time he only went to Ealing/Broadway which is about twice as far a walk as Hanger Lane (where we normally catch the Tube. He then of course got lost trying to walk home again. Hahaha, fun times. I had a really restless sleep, waking up at 3am, 4am, 6am, and finally 8 when I got up for good. |
