Election Week
Monday:
The day after Halloween at school.... Pretty normal Monday, as usual. I got up early, went into school to check email and try and run some updates. Class was fairly normal as well, except that people were realllllly tired. I wasn't too tired, but class does seem pretty long by the third hour or sitting.
I don't remember doing really anything of any importance on Monday. And Monday night I'm pretty sure I just went home and layed around.
Tuesday:
Election Day back home in America. This was just as big a deal here as it was back home. Everyone, American and British, was talking about the election. Who they thought was going to win and stuff like that. Today was going to be a very long day.
I woke up early and went into school to use the internet, as usual. I then had two hours of Photography class where we shared our work so far. I chose to share a couple different shots (1, 2, 3, 4, and 5). We all critiqued each others shots, talked about what's good/bad about them. I really want a better camera now, there is actually very little I can do with mine. Kelly has a really nice SLR digital and has taken some amazing shots with it. The problem is that I don't have $1,600 to spend on a camera right now. Oh well.
After class I went to the gym for an hour; then went to Tesco to pick up some lunch. We had a two hour lecture for British Life and Culture at four. Today there was a lady lecturing on Britan. Class was ok, but people were falling asleep during it. Jim crashed out again, but he falls asleep during most of the lectures I've noticed.
Afterward we all met outside to go as a group to BRB (a pizza place and bar), they have a two-for-one deal on Tuesdays. We all ordered pizzas before going to see Chicago that night. The pizza was pretty good. We each got a full 12" pizza of our choice for about 3pounds ($6), a little pricey but everything here is. After eating we headed out to get across town to the theatre. We passed Leister Square where people were all crowding around the Vue movie theatre screaming and yelling with cameras. So like any tourist we all gathered around to see who was there. Turned out be Pierce Brosnon and some other lady, they were there for the opening of their new movie. Well, after that we jumped on the Tube to try and get to the show on time.
Chicago was pretty good. I actually liked the movie a little more. There was a lot more story development in the movie, and visually it was a lot better. They also sped up a lot of songs like "Cell Block Tango" and a few others. It was funny, around town you see the poster advertisements for Chicago; they show a blonde or a brunette on them. Well those people they show on the poster are actually just other dancers in the show; the blonde is the foreign/innocent girl and the brunette is just and extra dancer. But they're in the ads because they're better looking than the two main characters, Velma and Roxie. Hahaha.
Afterward the plan originally was that we were all going to go to Planet Hollywood and watch the election coverage with everyone. But we decided that it wasn't worth it, plus I had a mid term the next day and didn't feel like not sleeping the night before a test. So Justin and I went home. We stayed up until 1:30am or so watching the results from the first set of states. We crashed after that until 3:30 or so when I woke up to go downstairs to see who was ahead at that point; then I went back to sleep. I ended up waking up at at 7:15.
Wednesday:
After getting ready for the day I went downstairs to eat and check the news. Both parties were pretty much even... great... it's going to be a shitty day for America.
The British couldn't believe the results, and all of them feared that Bush was going to will, barely, again; but at least this time he wouldn't have to cheat, they said. The headlines where pretty funny, all them bashing Bush for the most part. I know there's 51% of America that voted for him, but I don't think those people realize that almost 100% of the World is against him. During that Wednesday I had my English courses and Mid Term. We would get random updates from someone checking the TVs throughout the day of who was in the lead. I made it through my classes for the day, went to the gym as usual and then headed home. Justin had went to the store and bought cans of spaghetti for 8pence (15cents) and then wondered why they tasted horrible. That night we all sad and watched in disapointment as Kerry stepped out of the race. Then Bush spoke about "earning everyone's trust". I'm not sure if he watches the news much, probably not since he wouldn't understand it, haha. But the whole of Europe doesn't trust him.
Well, it had been a long couple days with not much sleep so I crashed around 12.
