More Marsha…

Wanted to share this new image of Marsha with everyone.
Spent last night catching up on some past shoots. I edited an entire fashion show that I photographed for Studio C Salon, and then caught up on some images from Marsha’s shoot and Laura’s shoot (see last post).

Keeping this blog post brief!
Just thought a hot image might brighten everyone’s afternoon.

;)

Laura Shields and Jesse Hart

I had the pleasure of working with the very beautiful Laura Shields in Beverly Hills, on Memorial Day.
Along with my good friend, singer Jesse Hart, we set out to create some James Dean/Natalie Woods inspired photos.
I’ll be completely honest and say I’m not quite sure how close we got – but I’m also nowhere near done editing the images yet. This is one of the images that caught my eye last night as I quickly sorted through the photos. They will all need to some more work to make them look aged and weathered. But I feel I’m off to a good start.

I’ve been behind in updating my portfolio with recent work. For that I apologize to all of you who follow my work regularly.
I’ll be playing a lot of catch up this week editing images of Marsha, and continuing to edit this shoot of Laura and Jesse. I also shot a fashion show for Studio C Salon that I need to edit. Not to mention the bit of motocross I photographed Thursday before my holiday-weekend cruise to Mexico (no, we didn’t stop. No swine-flu here).

Check back shortly.
I’m expecting to run some major updates this Sunday.

Also, starting in June, and going through July (and the rest of the year), keep an eye out for my work in various magazines including Rebel Ink, Unzipped, Import Tuner, Super Street, Cycle News, D Sport, Sport Truck, etc…

I told you I’ve been busy…

Smokin’ beach shoot with Marsha

“Take a picture of my fan club!” she said right after we wrapped this shoot. Marsha had gathered quite a large group of onlookers (not surprisingly) during our beach shoot at Santa Monica. And if my strobes weren’t aimed at the sand and sunset than I would definitely got a shot of them to share too, haha.

Yesterday afternoon I had the pleasure of working with Marsha, on location, at Santa Monica pier for a beach bikini shoot. Well, the shoot for the soon-to-be-released clothing line “Hatermaker” – but everyone will want to see the bikini photos first.

This is one of many shots we made during a gorgeous sunset – though it was pretty chilly out and both us were kneeling and laying down in the sand for the shots. Haha.

I’m looking forward to editing the rest of this shoot this evening, and will hopefully have some portfolio updates tonight with all my new work from the last three weeks, too. I look forward to potentially shooting with Marsha again as soon as our schedules both open up.

Check back soon all.

Joanne and Jason’s Engagement shoot

This past Saturday I had the pleasure of photographing Joanne and Jason’s engagement photos in Walnut, Calif.
I actually met Joanne on my birthday a few months back when I was out to dinner with friends. I asked her to take a photo our group with my camera. Handing someone my Mark III almost always starts a conversation about what I do for a living.
Long story short, Joanne was looking for an engagement photographer, and after taking a look at my portfolio we tried finding a date that worked.

The three of us spent a couple hours on location to try something a bit different than your standard engagement photos. Joanne really wanted an entirely black & white shoot. I’m a huge fan of color and lighting – but I’m always down to try something new and challenging.
Overall, the entire afternoon was a big success. We created a number of beautiful images, and I only hope that Joanne, Jason, and their families are as happy with the photos as I am.

A beautiful couple.
It’s somewhat of a given that with me, and an evening shoot, you’re going to end up with photos like this. I enjoy lighting way too much to not try a few of these.

Editing these photos last weekend reminds why I love doing engagement and wedding shots. There’s something really amazing about capturing the love and emotion between two people who want to spend the rest of their lives together. And having the ability and opportunity to capture images like these is the reason I don’t just stick to sports photography, or fashion, or any one style.

I truly love what I do.

Impromptu shoot at the beach with Jesse Hart

Just a brief blog update to share with everyone this image of Jesse Hart that I shot Saturday evening before we headed up to KRESS in Hollywood for the Models and Bottles party (see the previous blog entry).

We were down hanging out in Newport Beach and climbed out onto the rocks to do some shots. This is one of the ones I liked and decided to edit. Jesse, I’ll get you the other images for your promo posters soon..

As for other fashion stuff… I need to schedule some shoots for this month since I’ll have a bit of time.
And I have a really awesome engagement shoot planned and coming up quickly.

Good night everyone!

Wild weekend, Party at Kress

This weekend was the “Models and Bottles” birthday celebration for CK from Total Access Events at KRESS in Hollywood. Jesse Hart, a good friend of mine, was flown in from the middle of his current tour to perform for CK – who wanted Jesse there to sing at his party.
The rooftop party was hosted by the Hustler Girls, and some of the ladies from AVN who were also celebrating birthdays as well. I don’t think anyone there had a bad night – except the 900 or so people who couldn’t get in when the place filled to capacity…

I had a great time, met some really great people, and missed quite a bit of sleep… as usual, haha. But as always, rocked it out and had a great evening. CK, the Hustler Girls, and AVN can definitely throw one hell of a birthday party.

Clockwise from left: Melissa Jacobs, Michelle Maylene, Tanya James, Lux Kassidy, Alyssa Reece, Jessica Bangkok and Celeste Star.

Long Beach Grand Prix

I just spent four days shooting the Toyota Long Beach Grand Prix… it rocked.

I’m not going to lie… it was damn hot, fairly crowded at times, loud of course, somewhat disorganized, and at times it was even boring… But it was a lot of fun overall.
I was there to cover various race teams and some drivers that we sponsor, and as it was my first time out to the Grand Prix I tried to meet some photographers that have shot there to give me a few pointers about what to and not to do.
Actually, I even bumped into one of my favorite photographers there, Dustin Snipes, who does incredible work with lighting and sport portraiture. Check him out at www.dustinsnipes.com

I’m currently uploading nine different images to my portfolio. I’m going to continue to go through the rest and possibly swap out some images in the week ahead.

And check out this shot… come on, that’s fun, right? Haha, I think I just like the reflection of the fire in the wing…

I also have the AMA Motocross races coming up this weekend to shoot. So, I’ll be busy for another couple weeks. I’m hoping that next month I’ll be able to start back on my fashion projects. I had a number of things lined up before all the race seasons kicked off.
Although it is pretty amazing to be too busy right now… not many people can say that.

So, go check out the Racing section of my portfolio.

And check back this weekend for Motocross…

Formula Drift, Long Beach

Last weekend I photographed the Long Beach Formula Drift races.

I had a really awesome time there, met a bunch of our sponsored drivers – all great guys, and saw some really incredible driving. I wish I could handle my car at even a fraction of the level that these drivers can handle theirs. I always think “Man, I’m in the wrong business…” but, then realize, that being a professional photographer is pretty damn awesome also.

Above is a shot of Tanner Foust driving the Rockstar Scion TC… which, with the wide body kit on it, looks pretty awesome I have to say. Below is a shot of Vaughn Gittin Jr.  driving the 2010 Ford Mustang – which is damn impressive to see someone slide such a massive car around a drift course.

I was pretty pleased with a lot of my shots from the weekend. All are shot hand held – no mono pod, and most with a normal lense – not telephoto. I moved back and forth between 1/15 and 1/125 of a second depending on distance to subject, speed of subject, and which corner I was standing on.

Samuel Hubinette took third place is his BF Goodrich Viper – also impressive to see this car flying through the course.

Here’s how I looked most of the day since I didn’t want to breath in all the tire smoke, haha. Woo!

Visit the racing section in my portfolio for more images from the races. I’m actually just about to leave for the Long Beach Grand Prix where I’ll be photographing for the next four days.
Follow me on Twitter for updates on that too!

And sorry for the delay in updates everyone… I’ve had limited access to the web the last week due to work, travel, and the holiday.

Check back throughout the weekend for new photos from the Grand Prix!

Lucas Oil Off Road Races, Primm, Nevada

I spent Friday and Saturday in Nevada covering two different racing events. The first one, not shown, was the NHRA Drag Races at the Las Vegas Speedway. The whole day ended up being a huge pain because the weather kept the races from staying on schedule – and eventually shut things down completely.

The next day I spent in Primm at the Lucas Oil Off Road races, shown above. Check the image of Dempsey racing the number 5 car in the Super Lites class… this was shot at 1/100 of a second, hand held… so it produced some really gorgeous motion blur. And you have to admit that pretty damn good for hand held panning, right?

I had an incredible time, and met some other really nice photographers. One thing about standing out in the middle of the track… you get a front row seat to everything – and I mean everything…

It’s one thing to be standing front row for these trucks spinning out and nearly hitting everything nearby on the track…

And it’s something else when the drivers decide to drive right through the photographer/media area on the track. Haha… Man, you just gotta stay on your toes, and have eyes in the back of your head.

Wearing my jacket all day in the desert sun was honestly the best idea I had all day. No joke. I’m going to go buy a scarf for this weekend when I’m in Long Beach shooting Formula Drift. However it looks like it may be raining at that event.

I also have Drag Racing photos to possibly upload… and I never did upload images from King of the Hammers to my portfolio either… yikes.
I’ve been way too busy recently.

Oh well, busy is a good thing. Just means less time for updates.

Good night everyone, check back later this week for more images.

AMA Daytona Sportbike and Superbike racing

I spent all of Friday and Sunday at the California Speedway to shoot AMA Daytona Sportbike and Superbike racing. The picture above is of Ben Thompson from the Aprilia race team – which, as it turns out, I knew a couple of the mechanics that were at the race this weekend.

Overall I had an incredible time shooting such a high speed sport. And it’s always a little humbling to realize that many of these riders are younger than me – and I’m pretty young myself… easily one of the youngest professional photographers out there.

There were also a few accidents…

This was probably the worse one. The rider broke his foot, and destroyed the bike… flipped multiple times back over front. Those rims alone are eight grand a piece I’m told.. This was during Friday on the time trials day. There were also two riders that went down today during finals I believe.

I had a really great weekend. This week is looking to be pretty busy as well. Hopefully the weather clears a bit since the clouds, haze, and rain canceled the beach bikini shoots I had scheduled last week – a terrible tragedy, I know.
The next month is going to be nuts… keep checkin back for more photos, more racing, and – of course – some gorgeous models.

Good night all!
