My current, and ongoing, portrait series...

Welcome Everyone!
This year I've feel as though I've been all over the place. And, since it's been a while since I've posted any major news, I wanted to share with those of you who aren't familiar with my work a little about my current project.
Many of you follow my photoblog, and for those who have seen it, you have seen bits and pieces of my ongoing Portrait Series. This series is a project I started to showcase individuals in and around my life.
Some of the people I know personally, others I meet in my day to day life.
What I've set out to create with each portrait is a telling image about that individual. Something that may tell you a little about a side of their personality, their craft, etc. So each image if different in nature, but similar in style.
So far this series has been very popular and I've received a massive response from everyone through Twitter, Facebook, email, and my blog. Thank you all for the support! If you all know of any amazing stories or individuals, please do put them in contact with me either via twitter (@johnremus) or email on my contact page linked above!
Until then, you can all keep up with my work and travels through my blog, facebook, or twitter accounts!

I'm a featured artist with RAW Artists this April!

Come see my work at Playhouse, Hollywood!
A few weeks ago I was contacted by RAW Artists about showcasing my work at one of their upcoming shows. RAW is a company that hosts shows every month in major cities around the US. They showcase local talent from all genres of art - photographers, painters, fashion designers, models, musicians and singers, etc.
Well, they contacted me and were interested in my work being part of their April show. I went to check out the March show to see if my work would fit the style and theme of the show. I decided that it would be a fun chance to show everyone a bit of my work and meet some more people around Hollywood and LA. I've worked in so many different areas of photography the three years that I've been down here that there is always networking I would like to be doing.
So, I'm going to be showing my portrait series!!
My Portrait Series was something that started as a small idea and side project a few months ago. Honestly, it's based off an idea that I had when I first moved to LA. But, it took a long time for me to develop a style to the imagery that I was truly happy with. And, now that I've figured out what works for my images, I've been pushing this project really hard.
So, what is it?
Well, I've set out to create portraits (not just photos) of people in my life, around my life, or others that pass through my life on the streets day to day. Some of these images are higher-production (lighting, location, hair and makeup) and others are very simple portraits created right there in the streets with someone I happen to come across.
Either way, each and every photo is meant to be interesting, even captivating, but most of all it's to give you a little insight to the person themselves.
A large selection of these photos and various other images from my work will be on display.
I would LOVE for all of you guys to try and make it out to the show!
You can pre-order your tickets (it's just a $10 cover price for the lounge) here: RAW ARTISTS
Hope to see you there!

Great News! The 2011 K&N Filters Calendar has been published featuring nine of my images!

After much wait and anticipation, it's done!
Many of you guys who follow my work regularly have asked about "that calendar you shot a while ago"... Well, the K&N Filters Calendar has finally been produced! At the very end of 2009 I had the opportunity to work with a number of models on some very unique shoots. At the time I was handling all imagery for K&N Filters/K&N Intakes and AEM Induction Systems. We started a secret calendar project under the direction of the company's vice president. This was a huge deal because it was unlike anything the company had ever done. When approached with the project idea I said "if we do this, I'm doing it my style. Cool locations, interesting lighting. I will NOT photograph a cheesy 'girl in a bikini next to a car in a field shot' for this calendar. We need to make it amazing."
Well, the calendar was completed at the end of last year. Nine of the final twelve images were photoshoots that I shot myself. Three of them were done in-house while I was traveling in South Korea.
Unfortunately the project was put on hold with plans to release it for 2011.
That time is finally here!
The K&N 2011 Calendar has been produced and will be released this month. I already have received my copies and I believe the models have as well. I will admit that the final choices of my images were not my first selections as favorites/best, but you can see all of my favorites, edited and finished on the link at the top of this page, or click here.
K&N is actually selling this through their website, here. It's limited production to 5,000 pieces, full color spot-gloss finish, on very heavy card stock with an overall size of 18"x24"... it's huge!
Regards,

Special Announcement!! My work, on CNN!

Dear Readers:
Every now and then as a photographer we have the opportunity to photograph something truly incredible. The Holl-King wedding was one of those moments.
Three weeks ago I photographed the wedding of Eryn Holl and Ryan King in beautiful sunny Monterey, Calif. One of the things that made this wedding special is that both the father of the bride and father of the groom had brain surgery in the last year.
Mr. Holl, Eryn's father was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer one year ago. After being diagnosed the Holl's sought a second opinion from the doctors at UCSF on what the options were. Eryn told the doctor "Look, I'm getting married in a year - and my father needs to be there to walk me down the aisle."
I don't think I have ever been brought to tears while photographing the Daddy-Daughter dance at a wedding. But the look of happiness on Mr. Holl's face as he was dancing with Eryn, and Eryn in tears of joy and happiness to have her father there that day, were overwhelming even for me.
Recently this photo was featured, along with Mr. Holl's story on CNN.com's home page and was also on the Stand Up 2 Cancer telethon Friday September 12th that broadcast nationwide. I have been contacted by AOL.com and the Chicago Tribune who will be running the story also. I'm told it will even be published in the LA Times.
It's incredible that my photo has helped make such an impact with Mr. Holl's story about his battle with cancer.
I'm humbled by the huge response I've received from readers across the nation about how my image touched them.
If you wish to read the story on CNN, click HERE.
If you are interested in the video clip, click HERE and fast foward to the 51 minute mark.
And if you'd like to see more images from Eryn's wedding, you can do so on my photoblog, HERE.
Thank you again to everyone who commented, emailed, texted, called, or contacted me to share your thoughts.
Sincerely,
John Remus III
